10 Holistic Ways To Alleviate Period Aches

10 Holistic Ways To Alleviate Period Aches

Friends, if you’re someone who 1, hates medicine and 2, has uncomfortable and painful periods, this post is for you! I personally have always had an “uncomfortable” period with cramps, backaches, and just feeling like I have the flu. Over the years, I have been trying to figure out different ways to deal with these aches and I think I have come up with a good list of ways. So, today, I will be sharing 10 holistic ways to alleviate period aches.

I am someone who loves all things wellness, health, bodies. sexuality and so on. I believe that these topics are extremely important and that we should all be having them with trustful people. My friends and I are always discussing these topics and as a “bonus tip,” I suggest you find your own group, where you can express all of your feelings and concerns.

I want to make my blog a space for these topics and more “girl talk” conversations! Leave me a comment about things you’d like me to talk about. Alright, let’s get into the post!

Ps, I also wrote a period hacks post about a year ago, that you can check out here.

Drink Tea

10 Holistic Ways To Alleviate Period Aches

I know I know…everyone says to drink tea and that it is so amazing but sis, that’s because it is true! I’m not just saying this because I am an avid tea drinker and lover but tea really does help in a multitude of ways! Because of the herbs and ingredients that they use in teas and the way they blend together, it can you with everything from cramps, muscle aches, anxiety, depression and much more.

However, when it comes to tea and periods, you need a specific blend that is going to truly help you. And that is a blend of chamomile, lemongrass. honey, ginger, hibiscus, and cinnamon! Interesting huh? I only knew about chamomile bur when my boyfriend was searching through our cabinet of teas, he decided to google it and that’s how we learned this new fact.

The reason these ingredients are good for periods is that they act as a relaxing, calming agent and help with muscle spasms. Which is exactly what we deal with during a period; irritability and uncomfortable spasms. The tea that I use is a blend of everything I listed and I bought it from flying tiger Copenhagen and there’s no online store but, I found a few options on Amazon for you!

Dark Chocolate

Continuing with the theme of food, did you know that dark chocolate is great for periods? So, don’t beat yourself up for eating chocolate during your cycle. But, the reason behind this is because quality dark chocolate contains magnesium and endorphins, which help with uplifting your mood!

My favorite dark chocolate is the Lindt Dark Chocolate.

Heating Pad

Putting heat on your aching muscles is the best feeling ever! I have heating pads that wrap around and I use them on my back, my abdomen, in between my legs and everywhere that is hurting. Invest in some and you won’t be disappointed.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are important because they help improve your immune system and protect you from certain diseases and illnesses. A lot of antioxidants are fruit and vegetables and eating these aren’t just good for your body but they do help with making cramping less frequent. My favorite antioxidant is blueberries but there are a lot more that are great. Check out this article from Healthline, on all the foods filled with antioxidants!

Water

This is basic knowledge but if you have a good water intake, you will improve your health. When it comes to your period, it helps with keeping you hydrated and allowing you to have fewer headaches. Most of the time, when we have headaches, it can be because we’re dehydrated and on your period, that may be more frequent so, keep a water bottle by you!

Yoga

Moving around, stretching, and exercising is extremely important. When you’re laying in bed all day, you’re causing yourself more pain because you’re not allowing your body to stretch and feel alive. This is going to make your cramps worse because your muscles are stagnant.

I’m not saying you have to go to the gym and do an hour work out but just simply pull out your yoga mat and do a few stretches that are going to stretch out your abdomen and back. The Daily Yoga app is a good, free app with a ton of levels and workouts to do at home.

Vitamin D

By Vitamin D, I mean simply just going out and getting some sun. We’ve all seen the memes and tv shows, where they depict women staying in the dark, dungeon looking rooms during their periods but that does nothing but make you feel worse. Being in the dark and in pain is just going to make you irritable and sad. So, I suggest going for a walk (the walk and the sun will help you) or just sit in your yard and relax. Play some music, read a book, whatever makes you happy.

Period Oil Roll

I use the Blume Cloud 9 cramp oil and rub it into my abdomen and it does help. I know some people don’t trust products like these or can’t tell if it is actually helping or not but, to me it does something. It’s not going to take the pain away completely but it makes it hurt less.

Peaceful Environment

Having a peaceful environment is key to being relaxed. If your space is a mess and there is too much going on, your aura is going to be all out of whack sis. So, clean up, put some candles and incense on, play some vibes and get into your me time mode.

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

Continuing with the peaceful environment, aromatherapy is great for feeling relaxed and in a good space. There are essential oils for everything and during my cycle, I like to use my anxiety oil, drop like ten drops (seriously) into my diffuser and just go with the flow. This takes my mind away from the real world and allows me to drift into peace.

Thats all for this post! I’m not a big medicine person like I said and these things really do help me and I feel better afterwards. What is something you do to help with cramps and aches? Leave a comment.

I want to try that tea. Some months are worse than others, but it’s never a fun time. So, I’ll definitely stocking up on the dark chocolate and practicing the yoga for my next go around. Thanks!
