6 Easy Ways You Can Make Press on Nails Last

Now that we are in the month of December and it is almost Christmas, people (like myself) are preparing our holiday looks. Holiday looks are more than just clothing– its also the accessories. One particular accessory I’ve been missing is a nice, fresh nail set. My quarantine has been filled with me doing DIY projects and different activities at home and that includes self grooming. Since going to nail salons, spas, and other similar places isn’t recommended, I’ve been doing everything on my own! Normally, I buy a kiss nail  package from CVS and pop them on but, now I’ve figured out how to do it properly. So, keep reading to learn 6 easy ways you can make press on nails last.

  1. Match Nail to Real Nail

This is the obvious most important step because if you don’t match the nail, it‘s just going to look uneven and terrible. I like to start off by laying out every nail and picking the ones that look like it will fit my nail. Afterward, I place them on my nail to make sure it fits. Once that’s done, I place them in order so I can put them on easier.

You know how the nail technician caresses your hand, cleans your nails, and files them? Yeah, do that to yourself! Wash your hands, file your nails, buff them, cut them and make them look clean and presentable. This will prepare your nails.

  1. Push Back Cuticle

After you’re done with the first nail step, push back your cuticles. This will help the nail to fit properly and stay on because its not being pushed upwards. I’ve noticed in the past that my nails will be so quick to fall off because I didn’t prep my nails at all.

  1. Apply Glue and Hold for 30 Seconds

Yes, honey, hold it! I know you just want to place it and go but no, hold it and make sure it feels secure. When applying the glue, apply a good amount to your real nail and press on. Adding it to the press on only will have it slipping off.

  1. Don’t Wet Nails

Honestly, keep your nails dry for a few hours. Let the glue seep in properly and hold. If you’re washing your hands 5 minutes after applying the nail, it’ll loosen the glue. Use gloves if you need to wet your hands.

Bonus: Style It

You can always cut, trim, and reshape the press on if you want. Maybe its too long, too rigid, or you want to repaint it– do it. You can file it down or cut it with scissors and not ruin the nail.

That’s it for this post! I hope you enjoyed it! Ps, Happy December! This December, I will be doing 25 Days of Christmas posts, so subscribe to my mailing list!
