Having a morning routine truly sets up your entire day. Honestly, if you just roll out of bed with no “rules” to follow, it makes your day feel like crap. Having a schedule, and a way of doing things makes me feel motivated while keeping me awake.
The first thing I do when I wake up is, struggle to open my eyes. That can’t just be me. I swear it takes a good 2 minutes for me to get my eyes to adjust to day time. But once that’s done, I open up my bible app and do the bible story of the day. I truly enjoy doing this because I think starting your day with whatever force you believe in is great. It gets you in the right mindset!
Afterward, I head to the bathroom– phone in hand — pee, brush my teeth and wash my face. Exactly in that order. I like to feel fresh right as I wake up and my clean n’ clear face scrub does a great job. After I’m done with the bathroom, I go and make my bed
There is nothing better than making your bed. I love making my bed, it just makes me feel clean and when it’s time for bed, I feel much more relaxed. Growing up, I honestly always loved cleaning, (parents think some kids don’t like cleaning when in reality, we just don’t like being yelled at to do things) and organizing my room so, I also do that after making the bed. Then I light this stress-free candle that I keep in my room and it makes me feel zen.
Now, let’s move onto breakfast– the most important meal of the day! I love breakfast, especially a big one but when you’re home alone and eating for one, you stick to cereal or scrambled eggs. Even though it’s nothing fancy, I’m still eating every morning, which is something I never used to do. During school and living in Spain, I always skipped out on breakfast or on later days, I’d eat a banana but now, I love that little 20 minutes where I can eat, drink tea, and watch some Netflix.
Speaking of Netflix, this something I’d definitely say is a good addition to your routine. Not watching Netflix per se but, turning your tv or a podcast on and getting that early morning stimulation, feels great. I may turn on Netflix or the news and see what’s going on in the world.
Once I’m done chilling and drinking my tea, I take a quick shower and get dressed. When they say putting on a good outfit makes you feel good, they weren’t lying. I know the quarantine memes are of people in a nice shirt and sweats but, being in a decent casual outfit makes me want to work compared to when I’m lounging in my robe.
Lastly, after I’m done getting ready, I get to work and my day turns out great! Starting your day off with a good routine is key to making yourself feel good and motivated.
