5 Tips On How To Book The Right Hostel

5 tips on how to book the right hostel… but safely! When you’re traveling on a budget, staying in hostels is the best way to go. They’re cheap, nice, and allow you to have a little more freedom than hotels. But with hostels, people are always skeptical and unsure if they should stay in one.

So, I’m here to tell you that skepticism is okay but, it shouldn’t drive you away! Hostels are a great experience and I think everyone should stay in one once in their life.

I’m your friend to give you 5 tips on how to book your hostel and also how to safely choose the right one. Lets get into it!

Reviews

The smartest and best thing you should always when buying anything is; read the reviews!!! And when I say read them, I mean actually go through the threads and as far back as 3 pages to simply see if the reviews are consistent.

It is 2020 and a lot of places pay people to write fake reviews so, you want to make sure that at least 5 or more reviews are consistent and relevant.

I also like to only look at hostels with a 7.5 and higher rating because anything under that is honestly not worth it to me. A place where you’re going to sleep in and leave your belongings should be top tier. Safety first.

Photos

Photos matter when choosing anything in life from clothing to housing. Tip, don’t only look at the hostel’s photo but the photos from reviews. Also, search the hostel as a hashtag on Instagram because if it is a good one, they’ll a, have a social media account and b, others will tag it in their photos.

This allows you to see how clean and presentable the hostel is.

Location

Location matters for a ton of reasons! The most important reason is that if the hostel is in the city centre or close by, its going to be nice, clean and safe. Hostels closer to the city take their time in making it look presentable because they know that travelers are going to want to stay in a place close to the sights.

In terms of safety, since you’ll be directly in the city center, you don’t have to worry about long travels back to your accommodation and feeling unsafe getting there whether alone or with whomever.

Use a good site to book

Use websites and apps that have great reviews and are highly recommended by other travelers. This is important because sometimes you’ll come across a site that’ll tell you about deals and “super cheap” hostels when in reality they’re just scams. Don’t fall for traps because only bad comes from it.

I personally use Hostelworld and prefer it or jsut directly going on to a hostel’s website. Hostelworld has a ton of great reviews worldwide and hasn’t let me down.

See if they have curtains and a lock box

Hostels with bunk curtains and lock boxes are the safest ones out there. Bunk curtains are curtains which slide across your bunk and allow you to have immense privacy. Sleeping in a hostel can already be weird and the thought of having someone watch you while you do so is even weirder.

Lock boxes are also great because you can lock away your luggage into the box and not worry about anyone stealing your things.

Alright, thats all! I hope these tips were helpful! If you have any questions, definitely leave me comment!
