5 Things You Should Do After You Get Engaged

5 Things You Should Do After You Get Engaged

When Christian proposed, I was so excited! I was happy, emotional, and ready to start planning. I have always been someone who couldn’t wait to have my wedding and it was finally time to put my Pinterest boards to use. However, I didn’t want to jump right into everything, I wanted to bask in all of the excitement. And I want you to too! Its a fun time of year and once you’re immersed in the plan, it can a lot so you want to enjoy what you can. So, here are 5 things you should do after you get engaged!

  1. Enjoy Your Engagement

First things first, enjoy your engagement! You just got engaged, it’s the happiest day (currently) of your life.  Admire your ring, hug and kiss your new fiancé, feel all the feels! It’s a great day and you deserve to bask in that happiness.

  1. Announce It

After you’ve enjoyed your time together, announce it to your family and friends! Some people may already know but not everyone! Tell your loved ones and then social media. It feels great seeing how many people are happy for you. When I posted it on Facebook, so many people that I hadn’t spoken to since high school congratulated me and it felt nice.

  1. Plan A Celebration

Next, plan a little engagement party or ask your family to do so! My family had planned a small family get together at the house for us two days after the engagement. They had already known in advance so everything went perfectly. We ate, mingled, took photos, and just enjoyed each other’s company. Engagement parties don’t need to be a big event, they can be small, quaint, and intimate.

  1. Pick Wedding Date & Theme

After the fun, set a few things up! Choosing your wedding date and theme is such a fun activity! You get to narrow down dates, think of the significance of certain months and days, and choose the best date! When you choose your theme, it’s equally as fun! Knowing what month you’ll have your wedding will help you with the theme. Also it’ll help when it’s time to start venue shopping. Most venues are very theme related– for example, if you’re planning on having a rustic wedding in the fall, a barn or farm venue may be perfect.

  1. Do An Engagement Shoot

Lastly, do an engagement shoot! Photo shoots are always fun but engagement shoots are even better. I loved our shoot; it was fun, loving and made everything feel more real. We stuck to the outdoor, beach theme and it just felt so nice. There’s something about a photographer telling you to smile, kiss, and stare into each other’s eyes adoringly.

Okay, those are the few tips I have for you! If you’re engaged, congrats! If you’re just reading for fun, congrats in advance! I will be doing more wedding-related content and I am super excited so, stay tuned!
