6 Video Editing Apps

6 Video Editing Apps

I’ve always loved recording and editing videos, its honestly one of my favorite things to do as you can see on my Instagram. I love filming fashion and lifestyle videos and making them look cool while fitting my aesthetic. The key to making a good video is not just the tool or app, but, it is also the “subject.” In this post, I am going to share 6 video editing apps with you and tips to spice up for videos!

These apps are on the iPhone (not sure about android) and some have desktop apps. I use these for when I’m editing strictly on my phone.

1.Splice

I love Splice! I think this app is good for cutting down, tweaking, and adjusting your clips to how you want it. Some other video apps make it a little hard to trim videos or adjust the speed but this does it perfectly. Also, there’s a tool that allows you to apply any change to every clip instead of repeating the action.

After filming, I use this app first to create the structure of my video. I use the free version because for what I do, I don’t need anything else and there enough tools in the free version.

2. Videoshop

Videoshop is another great app and I also use the free version. I used to have the paid version but I don’t feel like I am missing out on anything. I use this app after splice, to add titles, transitions (if needed,) photos, backgrounds, and so forth.

Also, there’s a tool that allows you to strip audio from videos. I love this tool because sometimes I’ll screen record an instrumental from youtube and then extract the audio from the video (inside the app) and voila, I have a song! This app is great and easy to use.

3. Prequel

I love love love prequel for both videos and photos. Prequel is your one stop for aesthetics and I love aesthetics! You can add vintage effects like VHS, cinema, stardust, or filters that look pretty. On top of those, you can also add music and if needed, they have tools that help you trim your clips down.

I normally use this app last, when I want to choose an effect to go over my video. I like my content to be uniformed and have a certain style so I’ll normally choose a vintage effect to fit my instagram theme.

4. VideoStar

I don’t normally use video star however, they do have interesting effects like cloning yourself or adding other elements to your video. They do have editing tools but I only use this to experiment and test out their different effects.

5. Stop Motion

This app makes stop motion videos! Stop motion is so cool, I love watching them but they can be hard to achieve. This app is super easy and does everything for you. You simply  just take pictures (one at a time) and it’ll piece it together. My tea drops review video was made with this app and I liked the way it came out.

6. VCUS

The last app is VCUS and I probably use this one the least but it’s still cool. I like it because of the transitions and editing tools. Honestly I think it’s more of a b-roll app because you don’t really do any editing. You choose a song,  select your clips and it automatically turns it into a video. It reminds me of a travel vlog intro. So, if you’re a vlogger who wants to make a quick little intro or preview, I recommend.

Now moving onto my two editing tips!

In the beginning, when I said “the subject”, I meant if you’re filming yourself in a fashion video (for example) you need to utilize yourself. The era of imovie transitions is over (no more stars and swirls) and using your body is in. In my opinion, the best and most visually pleasing way is to transition the clips by doing something with your hands and body. For example, kick your foot up, toss your hair, or drop it low. This makes your video look a little more fun and aesthetically pleasing compared to just fading or switching to the next clip.

The second tip is not necessarily about editing but more so about the look of the video. What I mean is your background. I think the best place to film a video is in front of a white wall with or without accessories. I currently film in a section of my room, with a clothing rack and a plant in the background. I think this adds a little bit of character to your video and just looks more professional!

Okay, that’s it for this post! I hope you enjoyed and learned something new. What are your favorite editing apps?
