My Affordable Everyday Skincare Routine!

My Affordable Everyday Skincare Routine!

Whats up beautiful people? Today’s post is all about beauty and how we can continue to let ours shine!

If you know me pretty well, you’d know that I stopped wearing makeup (only on occasion) and started to get reallllyyy into skincare! I personally felt as though I was using makeup for the wrong reasons (I felt prettier in makeup…growing up as a dark skin black girl…etc…posts for another day) so I decided to cut it out of my daily routine.

It was probably back in junior year of college when I decided to go “cold turkey.” I remember, I was super busy that year and waking up an hour early just to beat my face wasn’t cutting it. I wanted more sleep, desperately and healthier skin. It was a little hard (confidence and all) but look at me now! Now, I only fill in my brows a little because ya girl got nice brows and lipstick because I’ve loved lipstick since I was little and uh, my lips are cute.

I remember I just woke up one day, brushed my eyebrows, filled them in and left. I felt good AND confident. Honestly part of it came from my boyfriend constantly calling me beautiful but also because I researched and learned how to take care of my skin to the point where people think I have a full face on but I don’t!

So, lets get into how I make my skin booty-ful,

Okay, first things first, if you’re someone who wears a ton of makeup but has no idea how to care for their skin….please stop! Wearing makeup and not knowing the proper way to take care of your skin is the worst thing you can do to yourself.

I hear horror stories of people who literally sleep in makeup, only use makeup wipes or just use regular bath soap. NO, PLEASE STOP! If you’re an everyday makeup user, you MUST invest in a good face wash, wipes, and micellar water to properly get your makeup off at night. As well as adopt a good routine. Makeup really sinks into your pores and thats part f=of the reason why my skin was so bad.

Now that that rant is over, back to my routine. My routine consists of washing my face twice a day, using wipes (only at night) washing with a cleanser that is good for my skin and using a facial brush, applying acne serum, applying toner, and finishing up with a moisturizer. Plus, a face mask three times a week.

Step one is to figure out what type of skin you have. Oily, dry, or combination. I have a combination and I like cleansers that are a mixture of creamy and foamy. I used to use Clean and Clear (recommend) but now I switch between CVS’ 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser and a Charcoal Cleanse and Purify Wash from Primark.

Before moving to Spain. I stuck with the CVS cleanser and LOVED it! If you’re prone to acne, its one of the best. I used to have random, bad acne but its honestly all gone (with the exception of random monthly spots.) But, since there isn’t a CVS in Madrid, I love charcoal and found a good purifying one at Primark. It honestly does a great job.

The Primark one is half cleanser half mask so, it comes out gray and I’ll leave it on for a few moments before rinsing. After washing, I like to pat dry my face instead of rubbing. Rubbing is too rough. If its night time, I’ll do a face mask, and put my jade roller and eye mask in the freezer and get them ready as I apply my mask and wait 30 minutes.

My favorite types of masks are peel off ones and regular clay ones. My all time favorite is the Indian Clay mask. Its great for my skin AND hair. So, I’ll leave my mask on for about 30 minutes before removing and using a jade roller.

I honestly saw Tracee Ellis-Ross using one and bought it because it looked cool and all I know is that its good for bringing blood flow to the skin and smoothing away wrinkles. I like it and its fun. So, I’ll roll away and put my eye mask over my eyes; which helps with dark circles and eye bags. You can find a jade roller and eye mask at any beauty store or Marshalls.

Once I’m done with that, I’ll add my acne serum; which helps prevent pimples and make the ones already present go away. It also helps with dark spots! I use the one from Blume called Meltdown and its amazing! Not too oily and a little goes a long way.

After I let that soak in, I spray some toner on, I use Stargirl from Blume at the moment but I also love using Rosewater. I let that soak in as well (you can also use the jade roller) and then I apply my moisturizer.

For my moisturizer, I currently use a charcoal one from Shea Moisture called the Bamboo Charcoal Hydrating Moisturizer but normally, I like regular ole’ shea butter. I know people freak out about putting oil on their faces (especially if you have oily skin) but I love shea butter and it’s natural and soft and just gives me a perfect glow. I didn’t want mine to get taken in customs so, I left it at home. I’m on a hunt to find a new one!

But, that is my daily and nightly skincare routine! I hope you enjoyed and found some things useful! I love skincare and trying new products! Ps, I’m also on the look for a good eye cream so, if you have any reconmendations, leave a comment below!
